Music Archival Collections for Beginners Workshop, November 13, 2019

Music Archival Collections for Beginners Workshop: A 90-minute workshop, Wednesday, November 13, 2019, 2:30pm Eastern/1:30 Central/12:30 Mountain/11:30am Pacific

Archivists navigate, process, and provide research support for unfamiliar and specialized subjects contained within their curatorial responsibilities. But there are many library employees without a music or archival background who find themselves curating music collections.

This workshop will provide strategies and practical advice for librarians without a music background, giving them the ability to process and establish intellectual control of their music collections. You’ll learn how to strategically develop your knowledge and skills to understand, arrange, and describe archival music collections. The instructor will use an action-oriented approach that will help you provide your patrons with access aligned with archival best practices. Participants will observe detailed examples and be guided through the process of collection arrangement and description.
