The Music Division in the Library of Congress is seeking to hire a person or persons to assist with assessing text on online images made of cards from legacy card catalogs, in preparation for conversion of text to MARC catalog records. The appointment is expected to last 4 months and will be paid at the GS-5 level, which is currently about $20 per hour. The full-time or part-time work will be accomplished under the supervision of the Assistant Chief of the Music Division. The work requires great attention to detail, ability to read many fonts and handwriting styles, and good computer skills. A familiarity with classical music and foreign languages is an asset. Work with assessment of text on these card images can begin as soon as the technician(s) is hired. The Music Division is in the Madison Building, 101 Independence SE, Washington, DC 20540. |
