Temporary archivist position in the Music Division, Library of Congress
The Music Division in the Library of Congress is seeking to hire a person with experience processing archival collections. The appointment is expected not to exceed 6 months and will be paid approximately at the GS-9 level, which is currently $53,435/year. The full-time or part-time work will be accomplished under the supervision of the Head of the Acquisitions and Processing Section. Processing activities will include sorting, arranging, and rehousing materials, as well as preparing a finding aid for use by researchers (see example here: http://lccn.loc.gov/2006560744). Applicant must have a strong background in music and be thoroughly familiar with the core principles of archival arrangement and description. Work samples of completed finding aids are encouraged.
Work on these collections can begin as soon as the archivist is hired. The Music Division is in the Madison Building, 101 Independence SE, Washington DC 20540.

Processing duties consist of sorting, rehousing, and labeling folders of music materials (scores, parts, etc.) and updating portions of the EAD finding aid. Work may also include selecting and scanning collection materials for a web site.
