Job Description

Assist the Head of Avery Fisher Center with ensuring effective and efficient operations of the Avery Fisher Center. Supervise the staff and daily departmental operations including: access and circulation activities; reserve processing; equipment maintenance and adherence to policies and procedures. In conjunction with Head of Avery Fisher Center research, analyze and resolve inquiries, problems and complaints from patrons and staff regarding media services in Bobst Library. Assist in the development and implementation of Division of Libraries Public Services media services projects and goals. Research, plan and implement services to support the media needs of library patrons and staff. Assist in developing policies and procedures for media services.


Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree



Preferred Education:

Master’s degree in film, music or a related discipline



Required Experience:

3 years’ related library or media center experience or an equivalent combination. Must include experience in administration and staff supervision.



Preferred Experience:

Experience supervising a library public services operation. Knowledge of integrated library system (ILS) and/or experience working with bibliographic data. Knowledge of media services and technologies. Experience in an academic environment.



Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and general patrons. Understanding and effective use of online library catalogs and other research resources pertinent to video and audio collections. Familiarity with standard office computing.



Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of current and developing technologies in recorded media; copyright; preservation and conservation issues pertaining to media materials; MARC format; HTML; spreadsheet and database applications.
