Job Description

The Colburn School is a world-class performing arts school where a renowned faculty provides instruction in music, dance and drama to dedicated students of all ages.


Since 1950, the school has equipped students with the skills, support and opportunity needed to achieve their highest artistic goals. The school’s state-of-the-art campus is located in the “heart-of-art” of downtown Los Angeles, neighboring Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Music Center, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) and the Broad Museum.


Summary of position: The Senior Library Technician – Music Specialist oversees or participates in all functions of library circulation, reserves, bindery, processing, and reference services. The position also includes editing and proofreading of concert programs. The position is either a 12 month, part-time position (30 hours per week) or a 10-month, full-time position.


Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Assisting patrons with catalog searching

  • Assisting Librarian with patron reference services

  • Scheduling the staffing of circulation desk in coordination with Senior Library Technician for Technical Services

  • Responsible for donation inventory listings

  • Responsible for Course reserves for faculty

  • Responsible for Library bindery shipments and physical processing of materials

  • Updating and maintenance of catalog records

  • Stack maintenance and shelving

  • Opening and closing the library

  • Responsible for compiling materials for the Conservatory Orchestra and CCMS concert programs to send to Communications and archiving of the annual school-wide concert programs.

  • Providing user technical support with library equipment

  • With the Senior Library Technician for Technical Services, serves as contact for the library when Librarian is unavailable

  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music or equivalent experience

  • Minimum work experience: 3 years

  • Fields of expertise: music, library operations, and integrated library systems

  • Highly developed English language skills; experience editing

Computer skills

  • MS Word and Excel required

  • Experience with integrated library systems as end user: Innovative Interfaces Sierra software highly desirable

Other skills and abilities

  • Highly organized

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Ability to work well with faculty and parents and students of all ages

  • Attention to detail
