Job Description

AMDA College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts, with campuses in New York City and Los Angeles, is one of the foremost postsecondary performing arts colleges in the country. AMDA offers Bachelors of Fine Arts degree programs in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance Theatre, and Performing Arts, as well as two year conservatory programs. 

 

The Research & Instruction Librarian plays a key role in the development and implementation of information literacy resources for the AMDA community.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with designing, implementing, and assessing library instructional services, in close collaboration with the Director, which includes class instruction, faculty consultation, orientation seminars, workshops, research and subject guides, and training tutorials

  • Eagerly respond to the needs of the AMDA community and tailor library services to meet those needs; build cross-functional relationships between the AMDA community and the larger Los Angeles area

  • Take the lead, in conjunction with the Assistant Director, on developing and marketing various events and library highlights for the community, using handouts, flyers, email digests, newsletters, social media activity, book displays, and digital exhibits


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science, Library and Information Science or related from an ALA-accredited institution required

  • Minimum of 3 years of prior experience in a similar role required

  • A background in the performing arts is preferred; other disciplines including the arts and humanities are highly recommended

  • Ability to demonstrate extensive work experience in higher education institutions or have combined work and education experiences

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are paramount; work is done in close collaboration with other members of the library staff as well as AMDA administration and faculty

  • Knowledge of established emerging teaching/learning methods and technologies

  • Experience working with student employees

  • Membership and activity in professional organizations is highly recommended

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
