Job Description

RIPM (Répertoire international de la presse musicale / Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals) publishes major online research tools for the study of music and musical history. A not-for profit organization based in Baltimore, RIPM works with a network of institutions, libraries, and individuals in Europe, Asia and the Americas, and functions under the auspices of two international scholarly societies. RIPM is seeking a full-time staff member to oversee the development and production of electronic publications in RIPM’s new Preservation Series. Its first publication provides access to European and North American music periodicals; the second will provide access to Jazz periodicals.
 
A master’s degree in music or library science, or a bachelor’s degree in computer science, and/or pertinent work experience is required. The responsibilities of the position will depend to some degree on the successful candidates qualifications which will include knowledge of music history (from Bach to Bebop), and computer technology (database structure, metadata and digitization). Reading ability in one foreign language is desirable though not required. Because we may not find a candidate with experience in all of the areas, the desire and ability to learn new skills is essential.
 
Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and skills, and similar to those offered in educational institutions. A one-year contract is required. The position is available immediately.
