Job Description

AMDA College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts, with campuses in New York City and Los Angeles, is one of the foremost postsecondary performing arts colleges in the country. AMDA offers Bachelors of Fine Arts degree programs in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance Theatre, and Performing Arts, as well as two year conservatory programs.


The Public Services Librarian will join the Library Director and Assistant Director in developing an engaging on-campus presence and expand the library’s involvement in the AMDA community. This position provides a great opportunity to build new policies and services as well as make an impact on the library’s future development. The successful candidate will have a passion for community engagement and have strong, creative problem-solving skills. The Public Services Librarian will be part of a small, 3-person team which oversees all library operations; the successful candidate must therefore be able to work collaboratively as part of a team and be willing to cross-train in other areas outside their main duties.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee circulation services and reference interactions

  • Manage patron services

  • Update OPAC accounts and records as necessary

  • Supervise team of student workers (approx 12-15)

  • Point of contact for all student worker policies and scheduling

  • Fill in on circulation desk during scheduling gaps

  • Troubleshoot service issues, collaborating with other internal departments or outside vendors

  • Develop programming, events, and activities to engage students, faculty, and staff

  • Engage the AMDA community with physical and digital outreach platforms (website, social media, newsletters, displays, etc)

  • Work collaboratively with library staff team

  • Must be willing and able to work extended and/or flexible hours as needed


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science, Library and Information Science or related from an ALA-accredited institution required

  • Minimum of 3 years of prior experience in a similar role required

  • A background in the performing arts is preferred; other disciplines including the arts and humanities are highly recommended

  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate extensive work experience in higher education institutions in the areas of outreach, library services, and educational support services

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are paramount; work is done in close collaboration with other members of the library staff as well as AMDA administration and faculty

  • Demonstrated evidence of initiative and flexibility as well as excellent analytical and project management skills is required

  • Knowledge of established and emerging teaching/learning methods and technologies

  • Familiarity with various forms of library software is preferred including, but not limited to, ILS and Springshare platforms

  • Firm understanding of cataloging practices and standards is preferred (AACR2, RDA, MARC, OCLC and LC classification)

  • Membership and activity in professional organizations is highly recommended

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
