Music Technical Services Assistant

FTE: 1

Schedule – Range: 02-11

Pay Rate: Minimum $15.42

This is advanced paraprofessional work in a large music library, providing a complex range of library services to the School of Music, wider UW-Madison and UW-System communities, to the public, and researchers and performers worldwide. This position reports to the Head of the Mills Music Library and performs a broad range of technical and public services.


Technical services includes responsibility for the physical collection, such as score sewing, binding, basic preservation, final processing of new materials and stacks maintenance; catalog maintenance; creation of metadata and copy cataloging. Public services includes circulation and reference. This position works with the Mills Music Library’s other fulltime staff to train and supervise student employees. This position has responsibility for the Mills Music Library in the absence of the Head and other fulltime staff.

Requirements

  • A Criminal Background Check Will Be Conducted

  • A Probationary Period will be Required


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to occasionally lift 30 pounds and to push a fully-loaded book truck is required.

  • Ability to work on a computer for 6+ hours.


Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experiences:

  • Familiarity with automated library systems for cataloging, acquisitions and circulation, such as Alma and OCLC.

  • Knowledge of bibliographic standards, MARC and other metadata schemes.

  • Ability to train and supervise student employees.

  • Strong subject knowledge of music, with ability to read music preferred.


Regular office hours; nights/weekends as needed is required.
