Job Description

The Music Library Technician performs routine technical tasks that support the Music Library, such as assisting patrons with general reference questions and performing collection maintenance functions, including check-in of materials.


Job Duties

CUSTOMER SERVICE :

  • Perform opening procedures for the Music Library each morning.

  • Provide public services for users of the Music Library; provide public/customer service that includes “ready reference” and “directional” service in answering patron questions. Perform bibliographic and reference searches in the area of specialization using knowledge of reference resources, answer and provide information on reference research strategies with clients.

  • Refer clients to librarians when appropriate.

  • Check in materials.

  • Assist patrons with Music Library equipment, including the use of viewing/listening equipment and computers in the Listening Area.

  • Check the public computer stations and replenish notepaper, pencils and printer paper.

  • Assist in maintaining the closed stack collection of music media.

MUSIC LIBRARY PROJECTS :

  • Assist with repair to CD cases; replace worn labels on CD cases and CDs as needed.

  • Assist in processing music CDs, inventory, and determining need for additional local headings and preparing report lists.

  • Assist with ongoing and one time Music Library projects.

  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Library experience.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Basic computer proficiency with experience using Microsoft Office and/or similar application(s).

  • Experience providing public/customer service.

  • OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Music experience or education.

  • Working knowledge of Library of Congress classification system.

  • Experience with Ex Libris Primo discovery module.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: $1156.50/month with periodic increases up to $1492/month


Schedule/Appointment: Monday – Friday, 8:00am-Noon / 20 hours per week / PSE Bargaining Unit 4


Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer work station for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
