Job Description:

Reporting to the Head of Research & Instruction Services, and serving as a branch manager, the Music Librarian is responsible for all aspects of the operation of the Music Library. This includes circulation, reserves, collection management, cataloging, e-resource management, and bindery in conformity with Holy Cross Libraries policy. It also includes staff and student supervision, team participation and project management, campus liaison work, and participation in professional development.

Hires, trains, schedules, and supervises student workers and one assistant (1.0 FTE).  A dvises faculty in the Music Department on all varieties of library materials, including print resources and digital acquisitions.  Works with other library staff on one or more teams, and participates regularly in library-wide meetings and initiative planning.  Assists with the operations of the Rehm Library when necessary.  Supports the mission of the Research & Instruction program, offering instruction and advisement on information literacy and technology literacy.  Meets regularly with faculty to support the work of the “Librarians by Department” program, establishing relationships between librarians and faculty to improve student learning.  Serve as a representative of the Holy Cross Libraries through events and marketing efforts, through campus-wide meetings, and as designated librarian to a Montserrat cluster.  Serves as a close member of the music faculty community, attending regular departmental meetings as well as other departmental events.  Other special projects and duties as assigned.  Reports to Head of Research & Instruction Services. Supervises Music Library Assistant and student assistants.

Requirements:

An ALA-accredited MLS.  Bachelor’s degree or higher in music.  Strong attention to administrative detail; demonstrated ability to recognize and resolve operational problems.  Basic cataloging skills.  Fluency in library technologies and trends, especially in music libraries.  Ability to implement new programs and services in the Music Library.  Excellent oral and written skills, especially in teaching and presenting to a group.  Collaborative; willing to work on a team toward a common goal. Collegiality; ability to mentor student workers and music students.  Preferred: reading knowledge of German plus one other language.
