Job
Summary: Catalogs books and scores for the William & Gayle Cook
Music Library. Provides quality control of IUCAT (the IU Libraries
online catalog) by creating authority records, correcting errors, and
resolving conflicts; assigns call numbers and makes decisions about how
to bind unbound materials. Hires, supervises, and evaluates student
temporary employees and trains them to do Library
of Congress copy cataloging and bindery preparation.

 REQUIRED: Two years of college level coursework and one year of
library experience; and familiarity with such languages as French,
German, Spanish, as well as the ability to transliterate Slavic
languages. 

The ability to read music well in all clefs, especially full scores,
transposing instrument parts when necessary. Familiarity with cataloging
and authority procedures, library specific databases, and search
procedures, particularly in OCLC and SIRSI; knowledge
of Music MARC Formats, AACR2, LCRI, LCSH, RDA, LC-PCC PS, and printed
music reference sources. Experience with standard office systems,
including email, database searching, and working knowledge of Microsoft
Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Excellent editing
and proofreading skills; highly accurate typing skills; strong problem
solving skills; ability to accurately review and process detailed
information; ability to pay attention-to-detail, work with disruptions,
and follow established guidelines; ability to work
independently and in a group; and excellent oral, written, and
interpersonal communication skills. 

Preferred: Two years of college level coursework in an area of Music such as Music History or Theory.
