Job Description Summary

The Library Assistant II – Cataloging is responsible for copy cataloging of materials in a variety of formats, including books, music scores, sheet music, CDs, and DVDs. Special projects, including local cataloging of held LP records and enhancement of existing bibliographic records. May do original cataloging, as directed by the Coordinator. Other duties as assigned.

Responsible for copy cataloging of materials in a variety of formats, including books, music scores, sheet music, CDs, and DVDs. Special projects, including local cataloging of held LP records and enhancement of existing bibliographic records. May do original cataloging, as directed by the Coordinator. Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Graduate degree in Music or related field.

  • Cataloging experience, including copy cataloging of music scores and sheet music.

  • Familiarity with LC Classification and Subject Headings.

  • Familiarity with a variety of online cataloging tools, including Cataloger’s Desktop and RDA Toolkit.

  • Familiarity with MARC records and OCLC.

  • Technical skills to learn and use enterprise systems and departmental tools.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse individuals at all organizational levels.

  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work with confidential information and use tact and diplomacy.

  • Ability to learn and interpret university and department policies and procedures.


Desired Qualifications

  • LP record cataloging experience.

  • Knowledge of a foreign language/film.

  • Academic library experience.
