The Ohio University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Music and Special Projects Librarian. We seek an innovative and user-oriented candidate who is comfortable in a changing environment and who is energized by a collaborative work environment with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Reporting to the Head of Arts and Archives, the Music and Special Projects Librarian is the Ohio University Libraries subject specialist for music, headquartered at the Music and Dance Library in Glidden Hall.
Specifically, the Music and Special Projects Librarian:
• Serves as the Libraries’ music subject specialist and liaison to the students, faculty, and staff in the School of Music. Builds relationships and collaborates with faculty to integrate library materials into Ohio University’s research and curricular efforts. Provides research and reference services and information literacy instruction in the field of music to Ohio University undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff, and members of the public.
• Performs collection development for music resources, including the selection of materials and oversight of funds for monographs, scores, audiovisual materials, and electronic resources. Engages in collection management and assessment, including the review and analysis of approval plans and collection use.
• Engages in and advances online project work including the creation and updating of web content related to services and collections, engages in other administrative projects and duties as assigned.
• Supervises 1 FTE classified staff member at the Music and Dance Library. In collaboration with the Music and Dance Library classified staff member, opens, staffs, and manages the Music and Dance Library and its service desk and space. Assesses the effectiveness of the Music and Dance Library services and fosters change as appropriate.
• Advances and supports the strategic plan and goals of the Libraries and the University. Collaborates with other subject librarians and Libraries’ staff and advances the work of the Libraries; participates in Libraries’ committees and communities of practice, and regularly attends Libraries’ meetings.
• Engages in regular professional development through research, publications, presentations, and participation in regional and national associations as part of the continuing commitment to bring best practices and innovative services to the Ohio University Libraries.

Minimum Qualifications

• A master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution at point of hire.
• A bachelor’s degree in music or a music-related field.
• At least one year of experience in an academic library.
• Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
• Reference and instructional skills in order to perform reference services and teach library and information literacy skills, including the development and delivery of instructional materials to undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty and staff.
• Knowledge of collection development practices, including fund management
• Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and interdependently in a collaborative, team environment.
• Supervisory skills.
• Commitment to assessment and data-informed decision-making.
• Positive attitude and ability to foster a positive and productive work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• A master’s degree in music.
• Working knowledge of one or more non-English languages.
• Successful supervisory experience
