Job Description

The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA), with campuses in Los Angeles and New York City, is one of the foremost post-secondary performing arts schools in the country. AMDA NY offers two-year conservatory programs.

The successful Library Information Assistant will demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of performing arts material and practices; a confident, flexible and collaborative leadership style; excellent communication skills; and a commitment to providing outstanding customer service. The successful candidate will also demonstrate problem solving skills and a keen attention to detail.

Required Qualifications

 

  • Must have a background, or experience, in the performing arts.

  • Must commit to a minimum of 15 hours of availability each week, to include nights and weekends. Weekly commitment may range from 15 hours up to 29 hours, depending on weekly schedule.

  • Scheduling flexibility highly preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree or any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree preferred.

  • Successfully demonstrated public service experience with the ability to work well with a diverse patronage.

  • Strong organization and problem solving skills, including the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Strong computer and technology skills, including Microsoft Office, online searching, and library resources.

Principal Responsibilities

 

Under the general supervision of the Library Management Team, a Library Information Assistant:


  • Provides circulation/reference service and instruction to all library patrons in person or electronically, using print, media and computer resources; directs patron questions to the proper person or reference source.

  • Assists in the implementation, coordination and delivery of library services support, and provides related front-line customer service to library patrons.

  • Supervises daily operation of circulation desk:  checks in and checks out material, maintains and updates patron records, reconciles register receipts, collects fines and fees.

  • Functions as shift supervisor and serves as leader on duty to coach and motivate student workers; holds self and others accountable to high performance standards, strengthens others through consistent coaching and feedback.

  • Interprets and explains library policies and procedures while supporting the objectives and action plans of the library.

  • Opens and closes the Library with the assistance of student workers.

  • Troubleshoots technical services.

  • Promotes library by conducting tours and visits.

  • May take responsibility for the facility, staff and operations in the absence of Library Management Team.
