Job Description
Serve as the librarian for the Center for Popular Music research collection containing over one million archive items, including 100,000 pieces of sheet music, 250,000 sound recordings, over 20,000 books, photographs, posters, trade catalogs, and other materials. Primary responsibilities include: providing reference services to patrons and supervising reference services by other CPM workers; original and copy cataloging of materials in all formats (reading room books, rare materials, sound recordings, sheet music, manuscripts, etc.); ordering books for the CPM reference collection and advising the Director on the acquisition of rare materials; scheduling and providing instruction and tours for MTSU classes and other visiting groups; maintain knowledge of current national cataloging and metadata standards as well as issues and trends in integrated library systems and how those might apply to his/her work; perform physical processing and repair of Reading Room materials per protocol; evaluate bibliographic records for contribution to OCLC; revision of local cataloging policy/manual in accordance with the policies of Library of Congress, the American Library Association, and OCLC; instruct graduate assistants and other student workers in cataloging and archival principles and methods, and perform other related tasks as assigned; maintain CPM website.

Required Educational Qualifications and Field of Study
American Library Association accredited master’s degree required.

Required Year(s) and Type of Work Experience
Two years full-time experience in a library or archive required.

Preferred Year(s) and Type of Work Experience
Three years full-time work experience in a research library/archive preferred. Experience working with music-related materials preferred. Supervisory experience preferred.
