Job Description

Interlochen Center for the Arts is looking to hire a Head of the Fennel Music Library. The Fennell Music Library serves the music program (with dozens of large and small ensembles needs as well as solo repertoire) of two world-renowned programs, Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Academy, and includes extensive collections in band, orchestral, choral, chamber music, jazz, scores, and recordings.  This position works closely with the Bonisteel Library Director and other library staff members in order to provide these services to the ICA community.  

The Head of the Music Library’s leadership is key to ensuring that the Fennell Music Library meets the individual and programmatic needs of the Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Academy.

Evening and weekend hours may be required as a part of the operating hours of the library.

Major Responsibilities: 
– Provides direction for the music library
– Manages the annual budget
– Establishes a vision for library services 
– Aids in maintaining the library’s website
– Develops and maintain productive relationships with faculty
– Oversees library collections, purchase music and rentals for large and small ensemble needs as well as solo repertoire, audio materials and music databases
– Collaborates with the Director of Libraries and library staff on projects dealing with outreach, programming and other library initiatives
– Coordinates with faculty on programmatic needs for both summer and academy
– Creates and teaches library studio sessions
– Processes orders for supplies and materials when needed
– Aids in the use and implementation of emergent technologies
– Assists patrons with technology issues
– Circulates Music Library items
– Provides a high level of reference to students, faculty and staff
– Assists with some of the cataloging when needed
– Participates in school-wide committee work when applicable

Qualifications: 
– Must possess an ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS and an undergraduate degree in music
– Experience working in a music library, preferably some ensemble music library experience
– Proficient in using and teaching library databases
– Experience working with symphony is a plus
– Some knowledge on cataloging best practices
– Knowledgeable in current copyright and licensing standards
– Understanding of both the current and future trends and practices in libraries
