Job Description

OPENING DATE: April 1, 2016
POSITION: Graduate Assistant: Library Services, Music Library
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until position is filled.
DATE OF APPOINTMENT: August 15, 2016 – May 8, 2017 (20 hours per week)
SALARY: $4,500 per semester stipend plus full tuition reimbursement up to 18 graduate credits during academic year. 

 

Under the supervision of the Music Librarian, the Kiyo Suyematsu Music Library Graduate Assistant will participate in a broad range of public services and activities including staffing the Circulation Desk in the Music Library, assisting patrons in the location of the Music Library materials and information, instructing users about print and electronic resources, maintaining the collection and assisting in training and supervision of undergraduate assistants. Duties include cataloging music formats and other Library materials under the supervision of the Media Cataloger. Other responsibilities may include collection development, group instruction, database searching, inventory, shelf analysis, promotional activity, and occasional duty at the

Circulation Desk and assignment to specific Music Library or Library Services projects. Attendance at periodic Public Access Team meetings, occasional department meetings and information presentations is requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Minnesota State University, Mankato (MSU) seeks an individual with a master’s degree in library science wishing to pursue a subject master’s degree while gaining professional experience in an academic library as a Graduate Assistant. Qualifications include:

• MLS from an ALA-accredited program

• Enrollment in an MSU graduate program

RELATED INFORMATION:

Graduate Assistants are required to enroll for a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester. Contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funds, there is a possibility that this appointment may be continued beyond the initial period of employment.
