Serve as coordinator/archivist for a nationally significant collection of more than one million archival items documenting America’s popular music heritage at Middle Tennessee State University. Assist the director with routine Center operations that may include assisting to monitor and supervise day-to-day task management and staffing responsibilities. Manage and provide reference service to Center patrons locally, regionally, and nationally; perform outreach services and assist with donor and grant development. Assume primary archivist responsibility for accessioning, arrangement, description, and preservation of mixed-media archival and manuscript collections, and for coordinating and directing their physical and intellectual processing. Prepare finding aids and incorporate them into intellectual collection management and access systems. Supervise processing of and access to all special collection materials (sheet music, trade catalog, performance documents, rare book, manuscript, and photograph collections); manage digitization projects; provide recommendations to director to set policy determining preservation practices, reproduction and usage fees, research use of the collections, and copyright issues. Perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an area relating to Center mission and five years of directly related, progressively responsible experience in a library, archive, or similar setting required. Certification in archival management or library/information science degree with a concentration in archival studies also required.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years of directly related, progressively responsible experience in a library, archive and/or university setting to include two years of supervisory experience preferred. Formal training or accomplishment in archival management, collections management, and digitization projects also preferred. Certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists preferred.

This professional position (#2716) is in the Center for Popular Music, and has a salary commensurate with experience.
