Job Description

Salary/rank: Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Assistant or Associate Librarian, twelve-month, non-tenure track appointment.


Responsibilities: Building of the Library’s collections including selection, evaluation, acquisition, retention of materials in a variety of languages/formats using OCLC, ALEPH ILS, and in-house and vendor databases; monitoring the Library’s acquisition budget. Serving as liaison to the College’s Fiscal Unit; working with vendors; monitoring curriculum developments, and maintaining acquisition and collection development policies/procedures/manual. May include assisting in cataloging materials, supervising student assistants, and other relevant duties.


Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS and bachelor’s degree in music required; master’s degree in music required. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; broad knowledge of musical repertory, experience in an academic music library, working knowledge of foreign languages. Able to work effectively in a collaborative and creative environment, able to work independently and as a member of a group in a truly interdependent environment; flexibility to adapt to changing technological environments. Ability to meet promotion requirements of demonstrated excellence in position performance, service, and leadership. Experience working with acquisitions modules in an ILS preferred.


Institution: The Warren D. Allen Music Library, an autonomous library administered by the College of Music, has a staff of 3 librarians, 4 paraprofessionals, 4.5 FTE student assistants, and has its own in-house technical service unit. All of the full-time staff have at least a bachelor’s degree in music. The Music Library has an excellent working relationship with the College of Music. Pay Plan: This is a Specialized (Non-tenure track) Faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Librarian. Salary competitive.


Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
