The Oberlin College Library invites applications for the position of Circulation Desk Supervisor (evening/weekend) in the Conservatory Library. This is a .63 FTE Administrative Assistant position that serves as supervisor of Student Library Assistants and the facility during evenings and on Sundays; offers circulation and back-up reference assistance to patrons during those times; provides computer and technical support for the library. This position has broad responsibilities and a high level of autonomy; the supervisor oversees operations of the library in the absence of other staff for 31.5 hours per week – (mid-August through end of December; mid-January through end of May. Sun 2:30-11:00pm, Mon-Thurs 5:00-11:00pm). Hours will vary over academic breaks. The position reports to the Conservatory Librarian for Public Services.

Responsibilities
Supervision & Facilities Management

Supervise all public services student assistants working during evening and weekend hours. Responsible for closing library at specified times.

In cooperation with the Circulation Coordinator, interview, hire, train, and evaluate student staff.

Operate the libraries’ automated circulation system and Blackboard, our learning management system.

Assist in resolving mechanical problems, including troubleshooting public computers, printer, and copy-machine malfunctions.
Outreach, User, & Instruction Assistance

Develop friendly, cooperative working relationships with library users. Assist the public by answering routine information questions, resolving problems, and providing referrals to library staff.

Instruct clientele in use of computers, listening, audio-visual equipment, and photocopiers as needed.

Interpret and enforce library policies with patrons.

Page materials as necessary.

Assist the Public Services Librarian with library outreach, library programming, and social media initiatives that will support the Conservatory library’s activities and advocacy efforts.

Process Reserve materials (including the creation and manipulation of database records) and assist with setup and maintenance of the module.
Other Initiatives
-
Maintain close working relationship with the Circulation Coordinator and half-time Stacks Coordinator /Circulation Assistant regarding public services activities and collection management issues, including a nightly shift report.

Assist the Head of the Conservatory Library and Technical Services Librarian with collection maintenance projects.

Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications

College degree or equivalent library experience.

Previous supervisory experience.
-
Demonstrated strong public service orientation and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Keyboarding speed of 35 wpm with emphasis on accuracy.

Compensation

This paygroup 5 position is to be filled at an actual monthly salary $2,966.88 rate of or at the appropriate transfer rate for internal candidates.
