Job Description

Westminster Choir College of Rider University’s Talbott Library seeks a motivated, energetic, and collaborative professional to serve in a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor-Librarian, beginning on Fall 2018.

 

Responsibilities

 

The incumbent will provide intellectual access for music resources held by Talbott Library by performing original and complex copy cataloging of books, scores, and non-print materials, in accordance with local and national descriptive and encoding standards. The incumbent will design, implement, and manage workflows for original and copy cataloging of music resources, as well as review and propose local cataloging policies and workflows relevant to music materials, and oversee all aspects of bibliographic control.


The person filling this position will coordinate cataloging projects, train and mentor staff and student workers, write documentation, and share reference responsibilities with other librarians in the department.


As this is a tenure track faculty position, the incumbent will participate in faculty governance by serving on library and university committees, and will also contribute to the profession through publication, research, and professional engagement.

 

Qualifications

 

An ALA-accredited M.L.S degree is required. Additionally, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in music is required, and a second master’s degree in a music-related field is required for tenure.


The department seeks applicants with experience in original cataloging in OCLC, demonstrated understanding of principles of authority control, demonstrated knowledge of AACR2, RDA, MARC21, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and other relevant cataloging tools (LCMPT, LCGFT, Cataloger’s Desktop).


In addition to bibliographic knowledge of German and French, knowledge of music reference sources, and experience with an integrated library system (preferably Sierra), we seek a candidate with a strong commitment to library service.
