Job Summary
Performs original cataloging of monographic titles, original and copy cataloging of musical scores, print and electronic journal titles, archival materials, government documents, and audiovisual materials. Works closely with colleagues to evaluate and document policies, procedures and workflows for cataloging, database maintenance and non-MARC metadata creation within the library. Supervises the Cataloging and Collections Maintenance Assistant.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Performs original cataloging of unique monographic and serial titles. (10%)
2. Performs original and copy cataloging of print and electronic journal titles, audiovisual material, archival materials, and musical scores. (25%)
3. Develops and provides resource discovery across a variety of formats, ensures the quality of metadata and cataloging records in the resource discovery tools, and develops new approaches to metadata processes in consultation with various stakeholders. (10%)
4. Performs substantive database maintenance, including but not limited to: authority control, headings reports, global updates and URL maintenance. Upgrades cataloging applications such as Connexion and performs authority work on cataloging loads provided by outside vendors; collaborates with other CARL member libraries to troubleshoot batch loading of consortial cataloging records. (25%)
5. Edits records from OCLC and other sources in MarcEdit. Exports records from OCLC and loads into III Sierra. (5%)
6. Assists with batch loading records of electronic resources including but not limited to PDA, consortial ebook records, Serials Solutions, and streaming media. (5%)
7. Works closely with and supervises the Cataloging and Collections Maintenance Assistant. (5%)
8. Maintains awareness of current cataloging standards and rule changes and dissemination to relevant staff; maintains a working knowledge of a variety of library and bibliographic metadata formats, both traditional and emerging. (5%)
9. As a member of the library faculty, serves on library and university-wide committees. (5%)
10. Represents Regis University on Prospector Cat/Ref Committee and other consortial working groups. Participates in professional activities, including research, publication, and service to fulfill research and scholarship requirements for academic rank and promotion. (5%)
Minimum Qualifications
1. ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent advanced degree required.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Minimum one year experience in an academic library cataloging department preferred.
2. Experience cataloging print and electronic monographs, serials, music scores, audiovisual materials, dissertations, government documents, and archival materials, or the equivalent in coursework preferred.
3. Minimum one year supervisory experience preferred.
