Job Description

AMDA College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts, with campuses in New York City and Los Angeles, is one of the foremost postsecondary performing arts colleges in the country. AMDA offers Bachelors of Fine Arts degree programs in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance Theatre, and Performing Arts, as well as two year conservatory programs. 

 

The Assistant Director of the Library works closely with the Director to oversee all aspects of the Library’s services, specifically in day-to-day operations and leadership, collection development, and event programming for the AMDA community.This position also collaborates with the Director on strategic leadership, direction, planning and decision-making on all aspects of administration.



Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with collection development by evaluating library resources and services to enhance and support AMDA’s ever-growing curriculum needs 

  • Conduct subscription evaluations, circulation and usage reports, gift, request, textbook acquisitions, and reserve collection upkeep in order to maintain a rigorous performing arts collection

  • Take a lead role in developing and creating library programming for the AMDA community

  • Work with the Research and Instruction Librarian, the Assistant Director will maintain awareness of changes and trends within the performing arts disciplines and programs to actively engage with all members of the AMDA community 

  • Oversee all student employee development and training and ensure the successful operation of the library, which includes interviewing, hiring and training, administrative documentation, which includes payroll approvals and scheduling, employee performance evaluations, and inventory management

  • Assist with emergency preparedness plans and activities


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science, Library and Information Science or related from an ALA-accredited institution required

  • Minimum of 3 years of prior experience in a similar role required

  • Prior supervisory experience required

  • A background in the performing arts is preferred; other disciplines including the arts and humanities are highly recommended

  • Ability to demonstrate extensive work experience in higher education institutions or have combined work and education experiences

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are paramount; work is done in close collaboration with other members of the library staff as well as AMDA administration and faculty

  • Demonstrated evidence of initiative and flexibility as well as excellent analytical and project management skills is required

  • Familiarity with various forms of library software is required, including but not limited to ILS and Springshare platforms

  • Membership and activity in professional organizations is highly recommended

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
