Responsibilities
Creation of original cataloguing, including highly accurate physical descriptions and historical and bibliographical references, for a wide range of antiquarian music- and dance-related material.
Qualifications
- Strong interest in the history of music and in the preservation of relevant historical artifacts. An appreciation of the marketplace in which such materials are bought and sold desirable.

Comprehensive knowledge of the history of Western music, theory, and notation.

At least two years’ cataloguing experience with music special collections material including manuscripts; printed music; rare books; archives; and iconography, with a solid knowledge of music reference and research tools, both printed and online.

Ability to follow in-house cataloging standards and practices as regards format, collation, and bibliography. Good working knowledge of printing history and illustration techniques desirable.

Ability to prepare descriptions with an exceptional degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Cataloguing proficiency in German, French, and Italian.

Excellent keyboarding skills.

Strong technological aptitude, including proficiency with the web, social media, Word, and Excel.

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements and Conditions
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time at a desk handling antiquarian materials, cataloguing directly into a custom computerized inventory database and/or Word or Excel document.

- Understanding that some of the material handled may contain allergens or irritants including paper dust and/or mold.
