Getting Started with Music Librarianship eCourse Bundle Now Available

The MLA Education Committee is pleased to announce a new series of eCourses in collaboration with ALA Publishing. In the Getting Started with Music Librarianship eCourse Bundle, a group of expert music librarians will provide you or your staff with the knowledge and skills that you need to get started in all aspects of music librarianship.

These courses, which can be purchased as a bundle or individually, are ideal if you have staff members who are not trained in music librarianship and need to get up to speed. They’re also a great introduction to music librarianship for LIS students or those considering a career in music libraries.

Courses included in this bundle:

Introduction to Music Librarianship with Liz Berndt-Morris. Begins Monday, January 4th, 2021.

In our highly specialized world, one could be a library staffer with years of experience and have never worked with music materials. In this eCourse, music librarian Liz Berndt-Morris will introduce you to music librarianship.

Introduction to Music Cataloging with Keith Knop. Begins Monday, January 25th, 2021.

Designed for those with basic cataloging knowledge but little experience cataloging music, this course will provide librarians with the fundamentals and ability to further hone their own skills.

Over the course of four weeks, participants will learn the basics about musical genres and terminology that come into play in collection development. This course is designed for library students as well as librarians at any career stage who are new or returning to collecting music materials. Knowledge of music or musical terminology is not required.
