  • Dual Degree Program available

    • The Department of Library and Information Science and the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, Drama, and Art offer a joint-degree program in music librarianship in which students take 30 semester hours of graduate credit in library and information science and 21 hours in the graduate program in musicology. The degrees are conferred simultaneously after all requirements for both degrees have been met.

  • Graduate-level music courses accepted for credit (6)

    • If a student is not enrolled in the joint-degree program, a maximum of 6 credit hours taken in the School of Music may be counted toward the Master of Science in Library Science degree.

  • Professional librarians may enroll in courses

  • Continuing education students may audit courses

  • Distance learning opportunities for Music Librarians available

    • Classes are offered at the Catholic University of America main campus and the Library of Congress. Classes are delivered through face-to-face meetings and a blended format that combines online learning with face-to-face meetings.

    • Individual Research: Up to two individual research projects related to music librarianship, music bibliography, or a related area, can be arranged.

    • Distance learning opportunities are available. Some of the courses available to on-campus students are available to distance students. The same material is covered. Most of the courses are offered at least once each academic year. (EXCEPTION: Core/required courses in the Archives and Information Science specialization are not available online.)
