List of Previous Goals and Progress Made

  • Notes:
    • Notes now has an e-only subscription option for the 2018-19 renewal cycle.
    • Sherpa RoMEO/author agreements:
      • Vick, Campana, and Shelley revised the latest version of the copyright assignment form for articles and Kathryn Goldman is currently reviewing it. Sherpa RoMEO has still not updated the journal’s information despite several attempts over the last two years (that yielded no response). It seems authors consult this resource less frequently than in years past, so the team agreed that further attempts are not necessary.
  • A-R / MLA Monographic Series
    • Series editors (Abromeit, Feustle, and Sauceda) and the chair will host a webinar in November for potential authors (with a focus on coaching toward successful proposals).
    • Series editors and the chair revised proposal guidelines for authors and reviewers (posted to website under Publications / MLA’s Series)

List of Future Goals

  • Notes:
    • When the copyright assignment form for articles is finalized, make similar adjustments to the reviewer forms.
      • Supports the advocacy charge in the strategic plan (ethical dissemination and evolution of scholarly communication) and the value of the profession goals and objectives (increase the visibility of the association)
  • A-R / MLA Monographic Series:
    • Revise mission statements for monographic series.
    • Consider moving to open access after titles have been on the market for several years.
      • Goals support the advocacy charge in the strategic plan (ethical dissemination and evolution of scholarly communication) and the value of the profession goals and objectives (increase the visibility of the association)
  • Open Access – Kathleen DeLaurenti and Liza Vick met in May of 2018 and agreed to pursue several initiatives:
    • Public Domain Song Anthology project (Open Jazz)
    • Humanities Commons: consider as a sustainable, consortial model for open access, conference registration and programming; potential for collaboration with AMS, SAM, SEM, SMT
