List of Previous Goals and Progress Made
- Met at the New York Public Library’s Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center in the fall of 2018.
- Bob Kosovsky led a tour of the library’s archives following our business meeting.
- Held our Spring 2019 chapter meeting at the Archive of Contemporary Music
- Presentation by Elizabeth Surles from the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University – Newark on the IJS and its Jazz Archives Fellowship Program
- Presentation and tour of the Archive of Contemporary Music with co-founder and director B. George
- Continued outreach to MLIS students interested in music librarianship: We can do more here, for sure, but we have:
- scheduled a current MLIS student at Queens College to present her work at the fall chapter meeting
- secured $500 grant from MLA and allocated a matching $500 in chapter funds to offer a $1000 travel grant to MLA national conference in Norfolk for which MLIS students are able to apply.
List of Future Goals
- Award $1000 travel grant for MLA Norfolk: Goal area, membership
- An MLIS student, an early-career professional, or a paraprofessional employee will be selected and awarded $1000 to facilitate attendance at the MLA national conference in Norfolk in 2020.
- Fall chapter meeting in November, at the New School: Goal area, organizational excellence
- Abby Sumner, a current MLIS student at Queens College, will present on the Leo Kraft archival collection held there
- Silvia Rocciolo will lead the membership on a tour of the New School’s site-specific commissioned art
- Outreach to NYC area library schools: Goal areas, value of the profession & membership
- information will be distributed to area library schools about the upcoming chapter meeting and the available $1000 travel grant
- These schools include Pratt, Queens College, Long Island University, Rutgers, and St. John’s University
